The Nakar pocket guide to… Sóller
A few years ago we started giving you a series of ‘Pocket Guides’, which we absolutely loved (and you did too!). So, today we’re re-introducing our Pocket Guides to discover the best places to visit on the island. It’s time to visit Sóller.
The Nakar pocket guide to Sóller
We know that there are TONS of things to see when visiting Mallorca. And by doing our ‘Nakar pocket guide to…’ we want to make the job much easier for you. We highlight all the nice things to see and do in our (and your) favourite towns and villages. Today it’s Sóller’s turn.
A western village with Mediterranean charm
There’s something unique and special about this village and its surroundings. Due to its location, in Mallorca’s West, in the heart of the well-known ‘Orange Valley’ it is a village that will take you back in time to offer a relaxing day in pure Mediterranean style.
Exploring Sóller – travel back in time
There are three ways to reach the charming town of Sóller: renting a car, hopping on a bus, or opting for our favourite, the vintage train. The journey begins at Palma’s train station, conveniently located beside the ‘Estació Intermodal’ in front of Plaza España. The scenic route from Palma to Sóller, which takes about an hour, winds through captivating landscapes, making every moment of the trip enjoyable. There’s even a quick stop in Bunyola to add to the experience.
For a truly memorable visit, we highly recommend exploring Sóller on a market day, which falls on Saturdays. The main square, Plaça Constitució, transforms into a vibrant hub filled with stalls offering local products, crafts, and more. The stunning church of Sant Bartomeu, built in the 13th century, dominates the square. This historical gem features a baroque structure added in the late 17th century, a modernist façade from 1904, and an arched tower suspended above the rose window, added in 1912. As you wander through the cobbled streets of Sóller, don’t miss the chance to indulge in some local ice cream at ‘Fet a Sóller’—it’s a treat you won’t be able to resist.
Port de Sóller – sunset stroll by the sea
After lunch, hop on the vintage tram that runs from the town to Port de Sóller. Once you arrive, take a leisurely walk along the picturesque seafront promenade, especially enchanting at sunset. The tranquil ambiance and stunning views make for a perfect evening. To top off your day, dine at the local restaurant ‘Can Ribes.’ Known for its exquisite cuisine and warm hospitality, ‘Can Ribes’ offers a dining experience that beautifully complements the serene surroundings of Port de Sóller.
